Colorful Tradition:
A Coat of Many Wildflowers

The environment is where we all meet: where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share. It is not only a mirror of ourselves, it is a focusing lens on what we can become - Lady Bird Johnson

Lady Bird Johnson can correctly be called the Mother of Texas Wildflowers, with her sweeping campaigns to paint the state's enormous highway system with natural and colorful flowers that are native to the state.

Years after those early efforts, Texas is indeed one of the most "flowered" states in the Union.
And - most years - a Spring drive through the Texas Hill Country will bring even the most avid fan of flowers pure joy as the state comes alive in a full technicolor tapestry as it adorns its seasonal coat of colorful splendor.

Start your flower tour on the Internet by visiting the online home of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, then get ready to embark across Central Texas for the spring drive of your life!
Start your scenic tour in Austin and head west to Burnet and Marble Falls. Some of the best wildflower displays can be seen near the communities of Early, Lampasas, Llano, Plano, Johnson City, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Hunt - and even further west around Medina, Bandera and - yes, the name is real - Utopia.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, take in some of the beauty below, then get cracking for your next great Spring road adventure on the Texas Hill Country Wildflower Trail. Happy motoring!
