Summer is here -- your rig is packed and reservations are made for that great summer vacation  season - right? But there is one more thing you need to pack -- your bicycle!

Texas has some of the finest riding trails and events in the nation and there is no better way to get acquainted with the Lone Star State than from the seat of a two-wheeler. Whether it's riding along sandy beaches, breezing through pristine Hill Country terrain, or coasting along historic routes, you'll enjoy many summer days in Texas from the seat of your bike. Not to mention all those calories you'll be burning off while taking in the sites. So get the bikes loaded in the RV, buckle up your bicycle pants and get ready to ride!

One bike event you really don't want to miss is Corpus Christi's "Conquer the Coast" ride.  There's no other bike ride like this one. It's a real adventure on two wheels! Where else can you rise with the morning sun and ride across Corpus Christi's famous harbor bridge, pedal through numerous scenic coastal towns, enjoy water stops stocked with food and cheering student athletes, take your bike on a ferry crossing escorted by playful dolphins, and be pushed home with a tailwind down one of Texas’ most prestigious boulevards? No where but Conquer the Coast in Corpus Christi, Saturday September 29th.

This years event offers routes for every level of bike riding experience and enjoyment.
There is a 25 mile cruise ride which has a more relaxed pace and includes a cruise down Ocean Blvd., which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful ocean front boulevards in the state. Then for those who want a bigger challenge, you can register for a 65 mile ride which includes a sunrise climb over the Corpus Christi Bay ; a route through the coastal communities and fishing villages of Portland, Ingleside, Aransas Pass, and Port Aransas; hop a ferry for a ride across the intercoastal canal; travel down Padre Island, across the JFK Causeway, through Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi and down Ocean Drive.

For those with real riding grit there is a second 65 mile ride that includes a different route that encompasses the "Toughest 18 miles in Texas", this portion of the ride is a time trial. Awards will be given for the time trial leg of the race based on time and age placement.

Besides being a great bike event, proceeds from Conquer the Coast benefit the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Tarpon Foundation and the Corpus Christi Chamber Foundation.
